The Assignment
The Municipality of Ekerö needed to quickly expand Ekebyhov School with additional teaching space before the spring semester of 2020. Requirements: high indoor comfort, excellent acoustic performance, and full accessibility – without a lengthy construction period.
The Solution
Between October 2019 and January 2020, MG Link delivered a two-story modular school building of approximately 850 m².
The building consists of 22 school modules and 2 stairwell modules with elevator and includes:
- 6 classrooms with associated group rooms
- Staff room and support functions
The project provided modern, bright facilities with a short lead time to operation.
Accessibility & Safe Circulation
The school meets universal design requirements: internal elevator, durable exterior ramps, adapted doors and thresholds, as well as spacious accessible restrooms on both floors. An additional external staircase provides direct access to classrooms and reduces traffic in the corridors.
Comfort, Acoustics & Energy
MG Link’s school modules are developed for high acoustic comfort and energy efficiency:
- Optimized floor structures balancing stiffness, weight, and load-bearing capacity
- Increased wall thickness and selected insulation in floors, walls, and ceilings for improved energy performance
- Impact sound insulation mats reducing noise between rooms and in corridors
- Large sound absorbers in each classroom – improving acoustics while also functioning as notice boards
Lease Structure
The Municipality of Ekerö leases the school building as a time-limited solution. MG Link collaborates with many municipalities in the Stockholm region and across Sweden – this was our first project on Ekerö.
