The Assignment
Due to new customs regulations, IKEA needed to quickly establish two new gatehouses and security booths at its distribution center in Älmhult. The requirements were clear: high security classification, extensive technical equipment, and short delivery time.
The Solution
In autumn 2020, MG Link delivered two modular buildings – from foundation works to occupancy in approximately two months. Both buildings were specially adapted in Swedish modular production to accommodate all technical equipment required for remote control of gates and surveillance cameras across the large site.
- Security-rated windows, non-opening and fitted with privacy protection
- Motorized service hatches for handling drivers, freight documents, and customs documentation
- Internal access control systems dividing the buildings into separate security zones
North Gatehouse (larger building)
Constructed from six 9-meter modules with a pitched roof and designed for efficient operations with clear zone division. The facility includes:
- Reception area for transport operators
- IKEA personnel handling documentation for entry and exit within the bonded zone
- Securitas staff monitoring gates, cameras, and scanning equipment
- Shared facilities including kitchen, locker room, cleaning room, and restrooms
- Driver accommodation room for overnight drivers (locker room, shower, wash facilities, and fresh water)
- A total of five departments and technical rooms, all separated by access control systems
South Guardhouse (smaller building)
Consists of two modules but houses equally advanced technical equipment as the larger building. Here, Securitas manages surveillance of entry and exit points in the southern part of the site.
